History

Hoofddorp was founded in 1853, shortly after the Haarlemmermeer was drained. What began as a village among ditches and sludge grew into a dynamic city. Its location proved to be golden—close to Schiphol and Amsterdam. Nieuweweg isn’t so new anymore. Once a vital connection between Hoofddorp and the rest of the polder, it’s now over 150 years old. A few old buildings still recall times gone by. Where farmers once drove carts full of hay, today it’s a lively street leading to the shopping center—and the site of 59Central.
