Surrounded by greenery

Loods II is located on the IJmeerdijk in a waterrich area with canals, wheels (pools of water from old dike breaches) and islands. Around the wheels real bank and marsh species still grow, such as the common cattail, yellow louse, marsh fern and various types of sedge. In summer there are mainly brambles and ferns. In the spring snowdrops and spearweed appear in the oddest places. Around the wheels is large enough for a brisk morning walk along the former production paths and consists mainly of black alder. But common ash, willow, rough and soft birch and the Norway maple are there too. Basically all species that do well on peat soil. The varied and nutrient-rich forest is very popular with birds and various mammals. In the marshy landscape of the nature you can spot a (not poisonous) grass snake. At dusk bats flutter above the ditches hunting for mosquitoes and moths. During the day they hide in the hollows of trees. Sometimes these also house maternity colonies, where up to fifty young are raised simultaneously in the spring. The vegetation is as varied as the terrain.

Architecture

The unique architecture of Loods II has the signature of Courage architects: uncompromising design with a healthy proportion of glass and (black) steel. Courage Architects start their designs from daylight, views and orientation on the site. Daylight influence on our bodies, positions of openings, choice of materials, physical behavior of building material combinations and installation concepts tailored to them. The design of Loods II is therefore completely adapted to its surroundings. In this case the IJmeer views and nature. The result: Four unique daylight houses that are built from the inside out and give you the feeling that you never want to leave.

Your own private island

A childhood dream comes true; your own private island. The island is connected from the plot of the house by two bridges that are also designed by Courage architects. The island is divided into four parcels which are intended as nature, the so-called Green-2 destination. In the summer you can enjoy long summer evenings on your own island or look out over your private island from your roof terrace.
